An Update About Voluntary
End of Affiliated Charter Status
After much discussion, the elected board of the School Site Council voted NOT to renew Chandler's affiliated charter, which term ends June 30, 2018. LAUSD has approved this vote. As a result, LAUSD will revert to non-charter school beginning July 1, 2018. The decision was made that this was in the best interest of Chandler and its families.
In practice, the only change will be in regards to enrollment.
* Families of currently enrolled Chandler students, who live outside of Chandler's attendance boundary and who are here under Charter lottery, will continue to remain enrolled students. There will be NO CHANGE to their enrollment status. These students will remain enrolled at the school until 5th grade, if those families choose to do so.
* NEW families, not currently attending Chandler and who do NOT live within the residency boundary, may be given the option of a permit in August, contingent on having available spaces in the relevant grade level. There are very specific guidelines for permits that also must be met. Once enrollment for all grade levels has been determined in August for the 2018-2019 school year, the school will determine if and how many permits to make available.
